The Crafts Council of Telangana will host the first installment of its bi-annual exhibition of textiles and crafts, Aakruthi Vastra. The Sankranti edition of Aakruthi Vastra 2025 will welcome visitors at a new location, the Jubilee Hills Convention Centre, Hyderabad, on January 8 and 9.
The Crafts Council exhibition will welcome handloom patrons. This year too, Aakruthi Vastra will bring together weavers and craftspeople across India. Alongside the rustle of handwoven saris from craft clusters the exhibition will see textile labels displaying contemporary Indo-western apparel and accessories.
Labels that specialise in eco-friendly fibres and dyes will be a part of Aakruthi Vastra. Asal will be exhibiting ahimsa silk saris and handspun muslin stoles. Ana by Archana Reddy will display kalamkari cotton and bamboo silk Indo-western garments, and Dyelogue will showcase its collection of bandhini saris, dupattas and contemporary wear.
Ek Katha will present batik print clothing and weavers from Pondhuru in Andhra Pradesh will present handspun and handwoven khadi saris. Naturally Anuradha from Assam will present eri, muga and mulberry silk while Zuri Market will present sustainable women’s wear. Ahmedabad’s Rang by Rajvi Godiawala Parikh will showcase handwoven, zero waste garments. Eco-friendly fashion is also the mainstay for the Arte-Alter label from Kolkata and Delhi-based Bamboo Greens’ home products and clothing.
Look out for Banjara craftspeople displaying bags in vibrant hues and saris with Banjara needle embroidery. Among the Hyderabad-based handloom collectives, Creyo will present saris woven by craft clusters across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Kanchi saris from Bengaluru-based label Bhanavi’s, Ahmedabad’s Gamthiwala’s mashroo handloom and block print saris, contemporary handloom saris from Pradeep Pillai, chanderi from Marm, tussar saris from Kolkata’s Naksha, maheshwar and tussar saris from Roopali Creations, heritage bandhini saris and dupattas from SIDR Craft, ajrakh block printed fabrics and saris from Sufiyan Ismail Khatri, handblock prints from Jaipur’s Shilpi handicrafts, and handspun tussar silk saris from Odisha’s Vriksh Designs are among the participating brands.
