Farmers’ stir: Farmer outfits to meet again on January 18

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), the umbrella body of farmers that spearheaded the 2020-21 farmers’ agitation, on Monday (January 13, 2025), held a meeting with Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), the farmer outfits that have been protesting for farmers demands on the inter-state boundaries between Haryana and Punjab.

The meeting was held days after, the SKM had passed a ‘unity resolution’ considering the enormity of the farmers’ demands in Punjab’s Moga.

KMM coordinator Sarwan Singh Pandher said the SKM has extended its support for the ongoing farmers’ agitation. “We will be meeting again on January 18 to decide on further course of action,” he told The Hindu.

Farmers and farm labourers under the banner of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) — the two umbrella bodies are spearheading farmer’s agitation in Punjab have been, since February 13, 2024. They are camping at Shambhu-Ambala and Khanauri-Jind – the inter-State boundaries between Haryana and Punjab, after being stopped from entering Haryana, enroute to the national capital..

Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is the convener of the SKM (non-political) has been on an indefinite hunger strike in support of farmer’s demands for a legal guarantee for purchasing their crops at Minimum Support Price (MSP) among others at the Khanauri protest site since November 26.
