GUWAHATI: Former MLA Kaling Moyong has been appointed as the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Arunachal Pradesh unit.
He took over from the State’s Water Resources Minister Biyuram Wahge.
The decision to appoint Mr. Moyong, a two-time legislator who joined the BJP in 2012, was finalised on Saturday (January 18, 2025) after a series of high-level meetings in the State’s capital Itanagar and New Delhi.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, and Assam’s Health and Family Welfare Minister Ashok Singhal played key roles in the discussions.
“We are confident that Kaling Moyong, a dedicated party worker, will make BJP stronger in Arunachal Pradesh,” Mr Sonowal, who supervised the change of guard, said. He also lauded Mr Wahge for guiding the party through the simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in 2024.
“My new team has the responsibility of taking the party’s development agenda to all parts of Arunachal Pradesh. The agenda, we believe, will help us win the upcoming panchayat and civic body polls,” Mr Moyong said. EOM
