I own a flat in a multi-storey apartment complex in Chennai. It is more than 15 years old and has around 250 flats. It has nine blocks instead of the approved six blocks though the overall area is the same. Only three blocks were divided into two each and hence the deviation.
The blocks also have silt/ car parking instead of ground floor as approved in the original plan. Apart from these there are minor deviations in the overall measurement, both excess and less dimensions. Now CMDA has issued a notice to the builder, residents, and the association to set right the anomaly failing which action will be taken, which may result in demolition.
The association is informed of the matter and taking necessary action. Please clarify and advise as to how to approach the issue and resolve amicably.

Answer: Your issues are complex and you have to consult a lawyer for advising you comprehensively. From your query, it is seen that your Association is taking steps to address the issues, by obtaining necessary professional advice and guidance. It is advisable that all the residents support the Association in its attempt to resolve the problems.
