“I would like to share a quote from Gandhiji: ‘If the intention of freedom is to make us civilised, and not to make our civilisation pure and permanent, then it has no value. The essence of our civilisation is that in all things, whether it be politics, personal, or ethics, should be given a high standard.’,” President Murmu says.

“Our chess champions impressed the world, as our men and women won the gold at the FIDE Chess Olympiad. The achievements in the sports during the year 2024 were capped by D. Gukesh, who became the youngest World Chess Champion,” says President Murmu.

“The 18-year-old Gukesh has been simply unbeatable. Besides becoming the youngest world champion, he also won an individual gold at the Olympiad where his performance became a key factor in sealing the team gold for India,” she adds.

“Our increasing confidence levels as a nation are also reflected in the arena of sports and games where our players have scripted thrilling success stories. Last year, our athletes made a mark in the Olympic Games. In the Paralympic Games, we sent our largest-ever contingent, who came back with our best-ever performance,” President Murmu said.

“This month, ISRO’s successful Space Docking Experiment has made India proud again. India is now the fourth nation in the world with this achievement,” President Murmu says.

“Other than the Genome India Project working towards uncovering the mystery of nature, it is also a decisive chapter in the history of science,” says President Murmu.

“In the last decade, there has been a lot of emphasis on the development of roads, railways, ports and logistic hubs including physical infrastructure. This has made our development much stronger and will provide support in the decades to come,” says the President.

“We have made specific initiatives, including pre-matric and post-matric scholarships, national fellowships, and dedicated schemes for the social and economic development of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes like the ‘Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan’ and the ‘Pradhanmantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Mahabhiyan’ are available,” President Murmu says.

“The Government has redefined the notion of welfare, making basic necessities a matter of entitlement,” President Droupadi Murmu says.

“With an adventurous, visionary and economic strength, our progress will maintain this speed in the years to come,” President Murmu says.

“The hard work of our labourers has boosted our infrastructure and manufacturing sectors. We are showing initiative in these sectors on a global level,” she says.

75 years after the Republic was formed, many parts of the country have been in a state of poverty and hunger. However, our confidence was never shaken. We took different resolutions to overcome that. Our farmers worked hard to make our country self-dependent ( aatmanirbhar) on foodgrain and crops.

“Among the oldest civilizations, India was once known as a source of knowledge and wisdom,” says President Droupadi Murmu.

President Murmu addresses the nation on the eve of Republic Day

On the eve of the 74th Republic Day in 2023, President Murmu highlighted the impact of COVID-19 on the economy and the country’s strides towards ‘Digital India Mission’, the Mars missions, and participation in the G-20 summit among other things.

“Every citizen has reason to be proud of the Indian Story. When we celebrate the Republic Day, we celebrate what we have achieved, together, as a nation,” she said.

On the eve of Republic Day last year (January 25, 2024), President Murmu addressed the nation “how far we have travelled despite adversities”. She highlighted the theme of democracy from the constitution and spoke about India’s achievements and progress in economy, science, international relations, and more during the year.

She said, “The 75th year of the Republic is truly a historic milestone in the journey of the nation in many ways. This is an especially festive occasion, just as we celebrated the unique greatness and diverse culture of our nation during the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, when we completed 75 years of Independence.”

Earlier in the day, President Murmu addressed a 15th National Voters’ Day event in New Delhi in the presence of Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and S.S. Sandhu, and representatives of political parties.

She said, “Voters should have the determination to rise above narrowmindedness, discrimination and inducements while exercising their franchise, besides having faith in democracy.”

She also said she was confident that Indian democracy would continue to set examples for the global community.
