President Droupadi Murmu addressed the nation on the eve of Republic Day 2025. She supported the “One Nation One Election” initiative, claiming it could improve governance by promoting consistency, preventing policy paralysis, reducing resource diversion, and alleviating financial burdens. She also highlighted efforts to end colonial-era mindsets, highlighting the replacement of outdated British criminal laws with three modern statutes.
Moreover, she emphasised the significance of inclusive growth and the government’s commitment to welfare, designating basic necessities like housing and clean drinking water as entitlements for citizens. She also drew attention to efforts made for marginalised communities, particularly Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC). Ms. Murmu referenced initiatives such as scholarships and schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jaati Abhyuday Yojana aimed at their socio-economic development.

On the eve of Republic Day last year (January 25, 2024), President Murmu addressed the nation “how far we have travelled despite adversities”. She highlighted the theme of democracy from the constitution and spoke on India’s achievements and progress in economy, science, international relations and more during the year.
