People undertake various activities to derive comfort. The activities may differ, but the objective remains the same. Why do not all get the expected comfort or benefit? The reason is the effect of karma. An oft-repeated, unjustifiable and adamant argument is that when everything is pre-decided by destiny, can a person remain without performing anything to derive comfort or pleasure? We cannot be without making efforts that arise automatically in our minds out of the influence of the same karma.
Specific unwanted, unexpected, and unpleasant happenings may occur in a man’s life, such as contracting a disease, incurring loss, or having an accident. No one relishes these, but they become inevitable. Scriptures say they may be the outcome of some harmful deeds committed before.
Sri Muralidhara Swamigal said in a discourse that Saint Ramalinga Adigal (Vallalar) had listed some of the ill deeds for our sake and awareness. They are: whether he made the minds of good people shiver and tremble; whether he prevented people from giving to charity or donating; whether he was treacherous with his friends; whether made the stomach of poor people burn; whether acted as an abettor to a nefarious activity; whether underpaid the labourers for their work; whether indulged in backbiting and disturbed any family; whether betrayed any person; whether failed to revere Guru out of disobedience; whether caged birds; whether felled shade-giving trees; whether disrespected and transgressed the words of father or mother; whether degraded the godly and pious men; or whether made inane slanders on God out of sheer ignorance and infatuation. He says he did not know what sin he had committed.
The various planets are seated in our horoscope, not out of any probability or at random, but they remain according to our deeds and indicate to us.
