Eight Maoists were gunned down by the security forces in an anti-Naxal operation in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Saturday (February 1, 2025), a senior police officer said.

The officer also said that weapons including an INSAS rifle and a BGL Launcher were recovered from the Maoist hideouts.

The gunfight started around around 8:30 a.m. in the forest of Gangaloor police station area when a joint team of security personnel belonging to District Reserve Guard, Special Task Force, Central Reserve Police Force and its elite unit Commando Battalion for Resolute Action were out for an anti-Naxal operation, said the officer. They had received inputs of presence of members of the West Bastar division of Maoists, he added.

Further details were awaited till evening as the searches were still underway in the area
