Heading to the Ed Sheeran concert in Chennai? Here are your dos and don’ts 

British musical sensation Ed Sheeran’s third stop on the Indian leg of the Mathematics Tour is Chennai. Here is everything you need to know about tickets, parking space, food and water, emergency services and more

Ed Sheeran is currently on a six city tour in India as a part of his concerts across Asia. The +–=÷× Tour (pronounced The Mathematics Tour) is the ongoing fourth concert tour by the English singer-songwriter, and his third stop in India will be the southern city of Chennai on February 5. 

If you are thinking out loud about logistics like parking, food, water, box office timings, emergency services, and more, here are some dos and don’ts from detailed advisory by concert organisers BookMyShow Live.

Entry and show timings

The box office will open at 1pm, so if you have opted for a ticket pick-up, collect your wristbands from here. Gates will be opened at 4pm and the opening act, singer Jonita Gandhi, takes the stage at 6.15pm. There are four entry points - Gate 1: Lotus Colony for the HSBC Star Struck Lounge ticket holders, Gate 2: Entry for fans coming via hired cabs, Gate 3: Pedestrian entry and Gate 4: Main entry where the box office will be located.

Parking

The venue does not have any parking, so concert-goers are recommended you either take the MTC bus to the YMCA Nandanam stop, or get on the metro to Nandanam. The bus stop is 650m from the venue and the metro station just 1 km away. If you are taking hired cabs, the drop off point is 900m or a 12-minute walk from the venue, so wear comfortable shoes.

 Rules

On entry, you will need to go through a short security check. Bags larger than 12’’X 9’’ will not be allowed inside, so keep it light. Once you enter, do not exit the venue because re-entry will not be allowed. In order to stay hydrated, carry a clear plastic empty water bottle because the venue will have multiple hydration points that offer free water refills.

The BookMyShow Live Instagram page has a list of prohibited items, so go through the list and make sure you are not carrying anything that is on the list. It includes items like sharp objects, outside food and beverages, illegal substances, explosives, laptops, helmets, opaque bottles, professional photography and video equipment, chairs, umbrellas, blankets, sound systems, audio recording equipment, personal transportation like skateboards or hoverboards, etc.

Safety measures

Children under the age of 5 are not allowed inside the venue and those under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult. Guardians are advised to collect a ‘tag your child’ wristband from the helpdesk to prevent separation. The venue also has dedicated medical and first aid zones along with police personnel and Quick Response Teams all over the venue. A lost and found desk is also set up in case you need information or lose anything.

Dedicated smoking areas are set up, as are washrooms for men and women with disability access. There will be food stalls set up specially for each section, so top up your wristbands in advance to avoid last-minute rush. Brands like Dominos, Burger King, Subway, Tibb’s Frankie and more will be present. 

Merch 

The venue will have a dedicated merchandise store selling, bags, caps, T-shirts and more so grab them before they run out.
