With the Assembly election scheduled this year, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday (February 4, 2025) handed over recruitment letters to 6,837 newly appointed junior engineers and instructors.
Last year on August 15, Mr. Kumar had promised to provide 12 lakh jobs out of which, the government said, 9.13 lakh jobs have been provided. There are plans to give 10 lakh more jobs.
Taking a dig at the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) regime, Mr. Kumar said that before 2005, the condition of Bihar was “very pathetic”. He said that his government is taking Bihar forward with support from the Central government.
“Before 2005, the condition of Bihar was very pathetic and everyone is well aware of it. We are engaged in taking Bihar forward from the very beginning and we are also getting full support from the central government as well,” he said.
The letters were given to 6,341 junior engineers under various departments and 496 instructors under the Labour Resources Department.
“I thank all the departments through which all of you have been selected. I am visiting all the districts of Bihar and becoming aware of the problems and needs of the people. All the problems will be resolved soon. Large-scale recruitment will be done and vacant posts in the departments are being identified,” Mr. Kumar said.
Last year, the Bihar government had handed over recruitment letters to 2,16,823 teachers.
Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kuma Sinha were present at the event. Mr. Choudhary, who also holds the finance portfolio, said the Chief Minister is working to fulfil the promise of giving government jobs to 12 lakh youth before the Assembly elections. He said the RJD was trying to take credit for the work done by Mr. Kumar.
“Nitish ji has proved by giving appointment letters that the NDA government is ready to fulfil whatever promise it makes. The State government is giving jobs to the youth and is creating employment opportunities for lakhs of people in many sectors such as construction, tourism and handicrafts,” he said.
