Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal presented the Kerala Budget for the 2025-26 fiscal in the State Legislative Assembly on Friday (February 7, 2025). The Minister said Kerala has survived the most intense phase of financial crisis without any of its welfare schemes or development work being affected.
The Minister announced a Rs. 750 crore project for the rehabilitation of Wayanad disaster victims. Kerala’s economy is primed for a take-off, thanks to the stringent fiscal consolidation measures, Mr. Balagopal said. He accused the Centre of consistently reducing Kerala’s share in the divisible tax pool from 3.88% in the 10th finance commission period to 1.92% in the 15th finance commission period. An amount of Rs. 50 crore has been allocated as additional funds towards special package planned to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts in the State. Meanwhile, land tax has been hiked substantially.
Mr. Balagopal also tabled the Economic Review 2024 and the final supplementary financial statement for the 2024-25 fiscal.
