Centre, U.T. government responsible for poor state of affairs of Pondicherry University, says DMK

Opposition leader and DMK convenor R. Siva has blamed the Centre and the Puducherry government for the present “poor state of affairs” in Pondicherry University.

Mr. Siva in a statement on Saturday said the University has been functioning without a Vice-Chancellor for a long time. “The Centre and the Puducherry government are not concerned about the appointment of the V-C. Several complaints about the functioning of the University have come out in the open in recent times. The semester examination for language papers of first year students were cancelled due to wrong question paper,” he said.

Semester examinations are not being conducted according to the academic calendar. Students studying in affiliated colleges are suffering due to the administrative failure of the varsity, he said. “The Puducherry government has remained silent on the issue. The Education Minister has neither uttered a word on the problems faced by the University, nor has he taken up the issue of V-C appointment with the government. The Puducherry government should immediately take up with the Central government, the poor state of administrative affairs in the institution,” he said.

Flaying the Union government for its handling of the education sector, the DMK leader said the University Grants Commission draft regulations were another attempt by the BJP to take away the rights of State governments and to spread its ideology. “After the introduction of New Education Policy, the Centre was trying to take control of the universities by bringing in regulations. We will organise a major protest in Puducherry against the UGC draft regulations soon,” he said.
