Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri Collectors jointly inspect Hogenakkal project

Collectors of Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri held a joint inspection of the Hogenakkal Drinking Water and Fluorosis Mitigation project here in Hogenakkal on Saturday.

Collectors R. Sadheesh and C. Dinesh Kumar of Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts respectively toured the entire length of the Hogenakkal Drinking Water and Fluorosis Mitigation Project infrastructure from the project site at the start of Cauvery in Hogenakkal to the water treatment plant, water pumping station, the reservoir at Madam.

The project has been conceived to source water from the Cauvery River west of Hogenakkal waterfall and pumped to a state-of-the-art 160 million litre water treatment plant situated 6.15 k.m. from the site of the river. The treated water is pumped to a water pumping station located 1.56 k.m. from the water treatment plant, from where it is pumped to a water storage reservoir of 240 lakh litre capacity located 3.4 kms distance at Madam.

The water is then pumped to the overhead water tanks by the use of both gradient and water pumping for supply and distribution through the local bodies of Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts.

The Hogenakkal water distribution project supports Dharmapuri Municipality, 10 town panchayats, 10 panchayat unions, 249 panchayats, and 2,784 rural households in Dharmapuri district; and Hosur Corporation, Krishnagiri Municipality, 6 town panchayats, 10 panchayat unions, 33 panchayats, and 3,974 rural households in Krishnagiri district.
