Sexual assault bid in moving train: Tamil Nadu government announces solatium

Chef Minister M.K. Stalin also announced that the Tamil Nadu Government would bear her medical treatment expenses.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Sunday (February 9, 2025) announced a solatium of ₹3 lakh to the woman, who was pushed off a moving train by a man during an attempt to sexually assault her near Katpadi. He also announced that the Tamil Nadu Government would bear her medical treatment expenses.

In a statement, the CM said that he has instructed officials to ensure proper medical treatment to the survivor. The accused person in connection with the offence, has been arrested, he said. The survivor is being extended medical treatment in a private hospital.

On Thursday (Feb. 6) last, a 36-year-old pregnant woman was pushed out of a moving train near Katpadi in Vellore district, when she resisted an attempt to sexually assault her. The next day, a 31-year-old history-sheeter was arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP), Jolarpet, in connection with the incident.
