In a show of support, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced ₹32 lakh in financial assistance to the family of the late kirtankar (religious singer) Shrirish Maharaj More, who recently died by suicide due to financial distress. The decision was made on the occasion of Mr. Shinde’s birthday, and the aid was handed over to the More family by MLA Vijay Shivtare on Mr. Shinde’s behalf.

Shrirish Maharaj More, a descendant of Sant Tukaram Maharaj and a renowned kirtankar from Dehu, took his own life last week after being overwhelmed by debt. In a note he left behind, More revealed that he was burdened with a loan of ₹32 lakh, which he was unable to repay, leading him to take the extreme step
