Delhi govt formation updates: BJP begins talks to pick next Delhi CM; Kejriwal to meet AAP MLAs on Feb 11

The oath taking for the new MLAs will happen once PM Modi returns from a foreign visit he is back, party leaders said; The Chief Minister’s name will be announced then accordingly

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to form the next government in Delhi after more than 26 years, winning 48 of the 70 Assembly seats. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won 22 seats meanwhile the Congress drew a blank in the polls held on February 5.

Day after winning the Delhi Assembly polls, a delegation of the BJP’s winning candidates in the Capital, led by Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, met Lieutenant Governor (L-G) V.K. Saxena on Sunday (February 9, 2025). Earlier in the day, Mr. Sachdeva had requested time to meet the L-G with the 48 MLAs and seven MPs.

BJP sources said it was a courtesy call and another meeting with other new MLAs was yet to be scheduled. L-G office sources said the meeting’s time had not been fixed.

Outgoing Chief Minister Atishi, who retained her seat in Kalkaji in the Assembly polls, submitted her resignation to the L-G. Mr. Saxena asked her to continue until the new government’s formation is complete.

    AAP will ensure accountability of BJP Govt: Atishi

    After AAP’s loss in the Delhi Assembly elections, caretaker Chief Minister Atishi said that the party will ensure the accountability of Bharatiya Janata Party government.

    Assuring the public that AAP will play the role of ‘responsible’ opposition, Atishi said that the party will ensure that every woman receives the said amount and other benefits promised by the BJP.

    “BJP promised that in the first cabinet meeting, the scheme of Rs 2,500 will be passed and by 8th March, Rs 2,500 will be deposited in the accounts of all women of Delhi. AAP will ensure accountability of the BJP on this and ensure that every woman in Delhi gets this Rs 2,500 from the BJP. We will also ensure that the work that AAP has done in the last 10 years is not stopped by the BJP.” Ms. Atishi said.

    Days after Delhi rout, Kejriwal to meet CM Mann, Punjab AAP MLAs on Tuesday

    AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal will hold a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and party MLAs from the State in the National Capital on February 10 to discuss the Delhi Assembly polls outcome, party sources said on Monday.

    The meeting comes two days after the Aam Aadmi Party’s rout in Delhi, where the BJP is set to form the government after a gap of more than 26 years.
