All Women Police have arrested a 24-year-old youth, who is also a BJP functionary, on charges of threatening a woman that he would upload a video of intimate moments between them on social media.
The arrested man has been identified as Lyas Thamizharasan, 24,of Sembakkam who has been studying final year in a private law college and also a functionary in the BJP’s youth wing, Chengalpattu district. He was in a relationship with a 22-year-old woman, and had purportedly recorded intimate moments, without her knowledge. He also reportedly extorted ₹20 lakh and 20 sovereigns of gold jewellery from her. When she insisted that he marry her, and keep his commitment to her, he refused to do so and threatened her with releasing the video online. After scrutiny of his social media posts, she was shocked to learn that he was in touch with a few others in similar manner, and had extorted money and valuables from them.
On her complaint, All Women Police, Selaiyur registered a case and arrested Thamizharasan. He was remanded to judicial custody. A senior police officer said at least two women lodged complaints against him and further interrogation is on.
