A 12-year-old girl of a government school at Pallathur in Thanjavur district swooned and died while being rushed to the primary health centre on Monday.

The Class VII student was found with nasal bleeding when she was being rushed to the primary health centre where she was declared brought dead, said the police and health department sources.

The police have registered a case of suspicious death under Section 194(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita based on a complaint from the girl’s father. The body of the girl has been kept in the Pattukottai Government Hospital.

The cause of the death would be known only after completion of autopsy, the sources said.

Earlier, the girl was given a deworming tablet along with 389 other children of the same school under the supervision of a government medical officer after lunch break.

A senior Health Department official of Thanjavur said the tablets were given to over four lakh students in the 1-19 age group throughout the district on Monday.
