The 51st Additional City Civil and Sessions Court on Thursday convicted two persons for the death of a 19-year-old youth following an argument in J. J. Nagar in April 2022.

The incident took a communal twist following which the case was referred to the Criminal Investigation Department. Though the CID had charge-sheeted the accused for murder, the court only convicted the two for culpable homicide, not amounting to murder, and sentenced them to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on each.

On April 4, 2022, Simon Raj, a complainant in the case, accompanied by Chandru V., 19, had gone to Hale Guddadahalli to have snacks on the occasion of his birthday at around 2.30 a.m.

The duo were riding a bike which collided with the accused’s bike and the incident led to a heated argument.

The accused, Shahid Pasha, called his friends for help, who came to the spot armed, attacked the duo. While Simon Raj fled and escaped the attack, the accused stabbed Chandru on his leg. The entire incident was caught on CCTV camera in the area. Simon managed to return and shifted the profusely bleeding Chandru to the hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.

Even though the jurisdictional police arrested three people in this case,, the government handed over the case to CID.

The CID team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Nandakumar, conducted a detailed investigation and recorded over 30 witness statements in the charge-sheet stating the murder was committed over a road rage incident.
