Devotional fervour rented the air as thousands of devotees gathered to witness the Thaipoosam car procession at the Marudhamalai Subramaniya Swamy Temple in Coimbatore on Tuesday.

The 10-day festival began on February 5 with the traditional holy flag hoisting ceremony. Each day featured yagasala puja and processions within the temple premises.

Prior to the car festival, the celestial wedding of Lord Subramaniya with Valli and Deivanai was performed on Monday between 12.10 p.m. and 12.30 p.m.

On Tuesday at 11 a.m., the idols were mounted on the temple car, which was decorated with flowers and festoons, and the devotees pulled the chariot.

Electricity Minister V. Senthil Balaji, along with a large number of devotees, participated in the festival. Many devotees from across the district and neighbouring regions also undertook a padayatra to the temple as an expression of devotion.
