The J.J. Nagar police on Tuesday arrested a youth for allegedly murdering his friend’s mother in Mogappair East after she scolded her daughter for coming home late.
The victim was identified as J. Mythili, 63, who lived with her daughter in an apartment. Her daughter worked at a private firm. Shyam Kannan, 22, of Virudhunagar district, a friend of her daughter who lived in Mogappair, frequently visited their apartment.
On Monday night, Mythili scolded her daughter for coming home late. Angered over this, her daughter went to talk to Shyam Kannan, who was outside. However, Mythili shouted at her daughter and took her inside the apartment. Shyam Kannan argued with Mythili over this and, in a fit of anger, strangled her to death.
After being alerted, the police recovered the body and arrested Shyam Kannan. Further investigation is on.
