A 54-year-old worker from Ariyalur district was arrested on charges of murdering a security guard at a concrete mixing company in Arachalur on Tuesday.
On Monday morning, Palanisamy (65) of Anjurampalayam, who worked at the company, was found dead with his face severely disfigured and his body bearing multiple injuries. His body was sent to Government Erode Medical College and Hospital in Perundurai for a post-mortem examination. Arachalur police registered a case and launched a search for Selvam, a worker who had gone missing after the incident. Superintendent of Police G. Jawahar also inspected the crime scene.
Investigations revealed that Selvam, who was staying in the workers’ accommodation on the company premises, had an altercation with a co-worker on Sunday night. Palanisamy, who was on duty as a security guard, asked Selvam to remain silent, leading to a dispute between the two.
A special team arrested Selvam in Chennimalai. During interrogation, he confessed to beating the guard to death. He was subsequently arrested, produced in court, and remanded in judicial custody.
