Trinamool State president seeks Anvar’s ouster from party

Kerala Pradesh Trinamool Congress (KPTC) president C.G. Unni has written to Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee against P.V. Anvar, Nilambur’s former MLA who was recently appointed the State coordinator of the party.

Mr. Unni, in his letter dated February 10, has demanded that Mr. Anvar be removed from his party position in view of his “anti-party activities and raising of funds in the name of the party.”

Mr. Unni pointed out that the Trinamool national leadership had appointed Mr. Anvar as the State coordinator “without doing any preliminary investigation into his criminal background or his role in financial scams.” He alleged that Mr. Anvar was raising funds by claiming that the national leadership had offered him a Rajya Sabha seat.

Mr. Unni cautioned the party leadership that Mr. Anvar was using the Trinamool only as a launchpad to enter the United Democratic Front (UDF). “He will quit the Trinamool Congress once he gets entry into the UDF. It is painful for us all,” he said.

The KPTC president said that Mr. Anvar landed in the Trinamool with the support of one Sunil Aliyar after trying his luck with the DMK in Tamil Nadu, SP and BSP in Uttar Pradesh, and the Janata Dal (U) in Bihar.

“Mr. Anvar was the second accused in the murder of Pallipparamban Abdul Manaf at Othayi in 1995. He escaped prosecution by making the witness turn hostile. The State government’s appeal seeking punishment for Mr. Anvar in this case is now before the High Court,” he said.
