The Mysuru city police have booked a case in connection with the outbreak of trouble outside Udayagiri police station with regard to a derogatory social media post and handed over its investigation to the City Crime Branch (CCB).

The Udayagiri police had arrested Santosh, 32, in connection with the derogatory post which showed indecent images of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal with Arabic words on their bodies.

A large number of people gathered outside the police station on Monday night demanding that the police hand over the accused to them. The crowd indulged in stone-pelting, injuring about seven police personnel and damaging police vehicles, forcing the police to resort to caning and firing tear gas shells.

Meanwhile, Home Minister G. Parameshwara told reporters in Bengaluru that he had instructed the police to arrest the persons involved in creating trouble outside the station and take action as per law.

Dr. Parameshwara did not rule out the possibility of taking action against the police also if they were found to be at fault.
