Sainik Farm should be regularised soon: Bidhuri

Published - February 12, 2025 01:55 am IST

Senior BJP leader and South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri on Tuesday raised the demand in the Lok Sabha to regularise Sainik Farm and 68 other such colonies to provide ownership rights and civic amenities.

Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, Mr. Bidhuri mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central government has already approved the regularisation of over 1,700 unauthorised colonies in the Capital. In a similar way, these 69 colonies should also be regularised, he demanded.

The Centre devised the PM-UDAY scheme in 2019 to give ownership rights to residents of unauthorised colonies in Delhi.

Mr. Bidhuri said the authorities should also be permitted to make a layout plan in these 69 colonies and to build houses according to the building bylaws.

The BJP leader said that he has also raised this matter before Union Housing and Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal and Delhi Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena.

On February 6, the Delhi High Court had asked the Centre to decide on the regularisation of Sainik Farm. The court, while dealing with petitions, including one filed in 2015, for the colony’s regularisation, said the matter could not be kept pending.
