Delhi Traffic Police has issued the highest number of challans in 2024, in the past five years, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
According to the data shared, over 23.09 lakh challans were issued in 2014, 33.74% more than in 2023.
The main reasons behind the rise in challans, according to the police, were the increase in vehicular density, lack of awareness among commuters, and strict law enforcement.
However, notices issued by the traffic police reduced, with over 51.41 lakh issued in 2024, compared to 56.53 lakh in the previous year. While challans are issued by the traffic police on the spot, notices are generated online through violation detection cameras.
Through fines, over ₹46.29 crore were collected by the traffic police in 2024.
