Delhi Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena and H.E. Marisa Gerards, the Ambassador to the Netherlands, on Tuesday inaugurated the 2025 Tulip Festival at Shanti Path in Delhi’s Chankyapuri.

They took part in a Tulip walk at the exhibition organised by New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). The Netherlands envoy and the Lieutenant-Governor named a tulip plant “Maitri” denoting the friendship that bloomed between the two nations.

Praising the NDMC for its efforts and the gardeners for nurturing the imported flowers, Mr. Saxena said that this year 3.25 lakh tulips have been planted. 14.6 lakh of the 3.25 lakh tulips were planted at the Shanti Path and other tulip bulbs have been sown in 20 parks maintained by Delhi Development Authority (DDA).

Additionally, as many as 15,000 tulips that have been planted in various parks in the national capital were developed in Himachal Pradesh’s Palanpur.

Addressing media after taking part in the exhibition, Mr. Saxena said, “Our aim is to minimise the dependence on imports in the next four years. We have to make Delhi more beautiful, for which such efforts will continue.”

The municipal council began the initiative by planting 17,000 tulips in 2017-18.

1 lakh tulips for sale

At least 1 lakh tulip bulbs were put up for sale for the general public at Shanti Path Lawn, Lodhi Garden, Nehru Park, Talkatora Garden, Central Park, and NDMC nurseries (Safdarjung Madarsa, Gurudwara Park, Purana Quila Road etc).
