Three persons were killed in multiple collisions when a motorbike and a cargo vehicle rammed a truck after it suddenly stopped on the Sattur-Virudhunagar highway at Agragarapatti in the early hours of Wednesday (February 12, 2025).

The deceased were identified as M. Selvam, 33, of Virudhunagar, D. Vinod, 38, of Tiruchi, and S. Velmurugan, 40, of Kovilpatti.

The police said that a cement-laden truck suddenly stopped on a culvert after one of the tyres of the multi-axle vehicle burst. Selvam, who was riding the motorbike, was caught off-guard by this, and rammed his vehicle into the truck from behind.

Within seconds, the cargo vehicle, carrying fruits, which was closely following them, dashed against the bike and crushed Selvam and Vinod, who was riding pillion, to death.

The cleaner of the cargo vehicle Velmurugan was also killed. Its driver V. Ramesh of Kovilpatti sustained injuries. He was rushed to the Virudhunagar Government Medical College Hospital.

The Vachchakarapatti police have registered a case, and further investigation is underway.
