Seven people, including three schoolchildren, were injured after a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus overturned, plunging off a hill into a farmland 10 feet below in Attur block on Wednesday (February 12, 2025) morning.

At 8:30 a.m., bus No. 33, driven by Selvaraj, was proceeding from Attur bus stand to Thavalapatti in Paithur panchayat. It was initially reportedthat while navigating the hilly terrain, the bus experienced a brake failure, causing the driver to lose control of the wheel. Despite his efforts to regain control, the bus rolled backward, overturned, and plunged into the farmland.

Inquiries conducted by TNSTC officials, however, revealed that the driver was speaking on his mobile phone, resulting in the accident. After confirming that the brakes of the vehicle were intact, the driver was placed under suspension.

The bus was damaged, and seven people — three schoolchildren, a noon meal worker, the driver, and two other passengers — suffered injuries. They were admitted to the Government Hospital in Attur for treatment. The Attur Rural police have registered a case, and further investigation is underway.
